The upcoming four days marked a holiday period due to the Diwali season. Anticipating a smooth journey, we did not foresee the heavy traffic in Bangalore during this festive time. Consequently, we arrived later than our team members, who had managed to reach the destination punctually.

Regrettably, the outbound journey faced challenges as we were unable to secure reserved tickets for the Rani Chennamma Express. Compounded by our tardiness, courtesy of the festive traffic in Bangalore, we found ourselves traveling in the general compartment. Fortunately, upon our arrival at Bangalore Railway Station, some team members had promptly arranged seating accommodations for some of us.

Our group comprised 19 individuals – 7 girls and 12 boys. While some secured seats, others opted to share. The train embarked from Bangalore Central Railway Station amid a bustling crowd. At each stop, more passengers boarded than disembarked.

During the journey, an elderly ex-military gentleman struck up a conversation, inquiring about our travel experience. Despite my indication of being a first-time traveler on this train, the questions persisted, adding a layer of complexity to the journey.

Finally, we reached our destination at 8:00 AM on November 1, 2013. Upon disembarking, we realized that we had inadvertently left two rented tents on the train, incurring a loss.

Facing hunger, we grabbed some idli-vada and packed pav-bhaji for the trek to Dudhsagar. Amar and Bhanu hired a taxi to Castle Rock, although we later discovered we had overpaid. A word of advice for fellow travelers: do not exceed Rs 1000 for a Sumo from Londa to Castle Rock. For larger groups, you may contact the driver, Sandesh, at 08762519729.

Upon reaching Castle Rock, we commenced our trek to Dudhsagar without the need for prior permission. After a brief team photo and guidance from Amar, we began the trek around 11:00 AM, aiming to reach Dudhsagar before 4:30 PM.

As we trekked, we marveled at passing trains and picturesque landscapes. The journey was not without its challenges, including a dark, 409-meter-long tunnel. Despite encountering some fatigue, the breathtaking scenery and team camaraderie kept us motivated.

Upon reaching Dudhsagar station, we discovered we had left two tents on the train. Despite the setback, we were relieved to learn that no permission was required to stay overnight.

Heading towards Dudhsagar, the sound of the majestic waterfalls grew louder after crossing the 11th tunnel. Setting up tents and a quiz on Kannada language marked the evening. By 10:30 PM, we retired for the night.

The next morning, we woke up to the stunning sight of Dudhsagar in the early sunlight. After playing in the water, packing tents, and having breakfast, we opted for a train journey from Dudhsagar to Madgaon. We enjoyed water sports at Colva beach, returned to the railway station, and boarded the Vasco-Yeshwanthpur Express.

Despite the train delay, our spirits remained high, and we entertained ourselves until we reached Yeshwanthpur railway station, bidding farewell with the promise of another trek. Lessons learned from this trip emphasized the importance of ticket reservations, awareness of traffic during long weekends, minimizing baggage, securing belongings during train transitions, careful consideration when hiring taxis, and planning for unexpected situations.
